Separation of powers - taking our power back

These are the bits of legislation you won't see "influencers" talking about, or reporters covering on CNN and MSNBC (much less Fox or OAN!).
Because our Democratic legislators are working behind the scenes to undo Trump's executive orders, to nullify absurd executive communications, to stand up and say, "No! That is a congressional power, not executive branch! Keep your grubby mitts off!"
There are also a few Republicans who understand that executive orders are not legislation and therefore unenforceable. That handful of GOP representatives and senators introduces legislation to codify Trump's EOs. Fortunately, without much traction.
If you want to keep up with legislation that will encourage you about the state of our country, this is it. We should support those who are taking OUR power back! Checks and balances for the win.
Proposed legislation:
- January 1, 2026 - :
- Proposed legislation related to separation of powers: Democratic versus Republican viewpoints. As of January 12, 2026.
- November 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025: Legislation: Stop Ballroom Bribery Act; Fostering the Future for American Children and Families Act; Building Resilience and Stronger Communities Act; Codify Trump's healthcare plan; Restore Trust in Government Act; reverse Biden-era rules; nullifying Trump's AI EOs; Stop Padding Presidential Pockets Act. Resolutions: Condemning SCOTUS + judicial reform.
- September 2, 2025 - October 31, 2025: Legislation: Repeal presidential authority over DC police; nullify EOs relating to exclusions from Federal labor-management relations programs. Resolutions: Terminating the "DC Emergency"; reversing BLM rules; condemning attempts by FCC, DoJ, and Trump to suppress free speech. EC: Related to destruction of East Wing.
- August 23, 2025 - September 19, 2025: S.J.Res.75 would terminate the "crime emergency" in Washington, DC (putting control of DC back where it belongs). S.2689 repeals the authority of the President to assume emergency control of DC police. My favorite is S.2816, Stop Sycophants in Government Act of 2025. S.2837, Protect America’s Workforce Act, has the support of 49 Senators, and would nullify two of Trump's EOs gutting collective bargaining agreements. And S.2838, Protecting Our Democracy Act, is one of the single most important bills to be introduced since 2016. It needs broader support.
- August 2, 2025 - August 22, 2025:
- July 17, 2025 - August 1, 2025: Republicans tried to codify two of Trump's EOs and reverse Biden-era regulations. Democrats tried to make Trump and Bessent fulfill their legal obligation to file the mandated risk assessment for 2025. Rand Paul recommended greatly expanding Trump's power to unilaterally make immigration policy. Democrats tried and failed to terminate Trump's "energy emergency."
