Senator John Fetterman (D-PA)

When I receive my daily alerts regarding legislative activity of the four men who “represent” south central Pennsylvania, I’m constantly astonished by what I read on Substack, in political discourse on Facebook and LinkedIn, and on the news… about Senator JOHN FETTERMAN.
We have two representatives – John Joyce and Lloyd Smucker – who are valuable to the Republican party not because they are great legislators, but because they always vote the way they’re told to vote. We have a Senator in Dave McCormick who is a Romney Republican. Except unlike Romney, he’s not distancing himself from President Trump. McCormick will vote sanely on occasion, just often enough to give me hope. Then he quickly devolves into a toady for Donald Trump. His political future seems more important to him than justice.
Then we have John Fetterman. Gruff. Not PC. Plainspoken. We say we want politicians who do what they believe to be right, who will be like John McCain or Joe Biden and work both sides of the aisle.
Then when we get someone like that, we (“we” being Democrats in general, not me) castigate him for not toeing what “we” think the party line is. Our alleged big tent excludes people like Fetterman.
     And I don’t get it.

FETTERMAN sits on the following committees: Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. He's also a new member of the U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and is a continuing member of the U.S. Senate Mental Health Caucus.
