Stories I Heard While Listening
Book of short stories by Ruth Sachs,
illustrated by D. E. Heap. Release date: August 16, 2008.
Short stories offer a quick glimpse
of life, a peek backstage at the actors without makeup and costumes. This
collection of stories eavesdrops on Psyche and Cupid, Rivka and Rafael, and
Ruth's own next-door neighbors and colleagues. You will identify with these
people who allow you briefly into their hearts, people who for one moment tell
you what they really feel. Hard cover. Order information: Product code FIC-01001. Pricing: $36.00.
The Generation "Letter novel" by Ruth Hanna Sachs. Release date: November 30, 2008. As the story opens, the reader gets to know Joanie Goldstern shortly before her 18th birthday on September 13, 1996. Her letters are introduced by Mrs. Sarah Spielberg and Dr. Baruch at the Congress for Peace, in the year 4016. Set in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, The Generation involves the teenage angst of Joanie's high-school life and a boyfriend away in college. A strange man, evidently a friend of Joanie’s rabbi, approaches her with a proposition: If she provides his unnamed group in Israel with a weekly report on the questions and answers she uncovers that week, they will give her a Discover card in her own name, with unlimited credit. There are to be no requirements for the type of questions and answers she is to write about. The only criterion is that her weekly report must be emailed to them no later than Sunday at noon. Ruth's well-crafted novel leads the reader from a world set in the recent past, when peace in the Middle East briefly seemed attainable, to a future time and space when black and white no longer equal gray. This book will delight science fiction and political science fans alike! Pre-orders will ship in the order in which they are received and will not be invoiced until shipment. Hard cover. Order information: Product code FIC-01002. Pricing: $36.00.
How to Deal with the Unethical Boss (A Novel) Novel by Alma Thieme. Release date: TBA. Denise initially planned to write a nonfiction work outlining how regular employees and middle management alike could work in an unethical environment. She'd seen a great deal of this firsthand ~ from her early years with a German-owned company whose CEO kept his father's Nazi war medals on prominent display, to the grief Ken Lay caused her father, to an alcoholic boss who seemed to drink 24/7 and could become physically abusive. After developing her synopsis and beginning research, Denise decided that in the end, there is no way to deal with an unethical boss. Choices are limited, as whistle-blower protections are in fact practically unenforceable for all but the wealthy or well-connected. She therefore handed her notes over to Alma Thieme, who is hewing a semi-autobiographical novel in Denise's voice from the material. Release date is still unknown. Pre-orders will ship in the order in which they are received and will not be invoiced until shipment. Hard cover. Order information: Product code FIC-01003. Pricing: $36.00.
