Lotta's Birthday. A Comedy in One Act, by Ludwig Thoma, translated and adapted by Alma Thieme.

Where Thieme adapted Thoma's other two plays (published by Exclamation! Publishers) to an American setting, she left this one in its German context: A small university town, anno 1911, only a few short years before The Great War began.

This play pokes fun at empty intellectualism. Probably one of Thoma's most accessible works, it remains timeless in the father's convoluted approach to preparing his daughter for marriage. The conversation between mother and father about how to have The Talk (about the birds and the bees) with 20-year-old Lotta could have been scripted by the producers of Sex & The City.

Six players in all: Two adult males, three adult females, and 20-year-old Lotta.

Script can be ordered through our online store ($10 each ~ either 1 copy only for perusal purposes, or minimum order of 7 scripts).

Royalties: For high school, college, university, and community theaters, $50 for the first performance, $35 for each subsequent performance. Can be paid online.
