Lotta's Birthday - A Comedy in One Act

One-act play by Ludwig Thoma. Translated and adapted by Alma Thieme.

Where Thieme adapted Thoma's other two plays sold here to an American setting, she left this one in its German context: A small university town, anno 1911, only a few short years before The Great War began.
This play pokes fun at empty intellectualism. Probably one of Thoma's most accessible works, it remains timeless in the father's convoluted approach to preparing his daughter for marriage. The conversation between mother and father about how to have The Talk (about the birds and the bees) with 20-year-old Lotta could have been scripted by the producers of Sex & The City.
Six players in all: Two adult males, three adult females, and 20-year-old Lotta.
$10 / script. Must order either 1 only for perusal, or minimum of seven for the cast and director.
Royalties: $50 for first performance, $35 for each additional performance. No percentage of ticket sales.
